Splurge

I have to say a huge thank you to Nicola, who lent me Microserfs, I’m addicted to this book, it appeals so much to the geek in me aghhh. I keep wanting to take a pencil and start underlining loads of the text as it all makes so much sense. I have too many favourite lines in it but one that sums up my life in London goes a bit like this:

Conundrum: I can’t imagine not giving myself fully to a job… 100% of me… but if I DO, I’d never “have a life” (whatever that means.) The problem is, who’d WANT to have a job that couldn’t absorb you 100%??”

So true.

Anyway had a good weekend despite the result of the rugby. Invited a kiwi from work down to Cardiff to go watch the match (my dad’s on holiday so she bought his ticket), I was feeling sympathetic as she’d not been to see the All Blacks at all as apparently they are impossible to see in NZ. It also meant I had someone to go drinking with afterwards which was great.

Anyway I’ve been “Deep Coding” for the last couple of weeks which is the term I give spells at work where I spend my time developing rather than the other side of my job which is testing. Generally the dev work is much more fun but also engrossing to the point where I find it’s 6pm and I’ve still got tons to do.

So that leads me onto another point… people in the city work way to late. No one on the team here leaves before 6 usually later, and then its still hectically busy on the tubes.

Skiing in a couple of weeks J

Sure I had more to write… I keep thinking of things in the morning. Like rants and then never write them down. Perhaps I need a Dictaphone but then perhaps everyone would look at me spookily as I dictated thoughts while riding the underground. It’s nearly time for everyone to start setting up their wish lists for Christmas.

I might have to start listing things here.

Oh I don’t mean like presents, I mean real wishes, what do I wish would come true for Christmas.

I love that book so much, I've read it at least five times. Its oddness enthralls me and he keeps saying such random yet so true stuff. You read any other of his books. They are all great, although I think that's my favourite. Love Nich xxxPS I am so glad you like it. There is a real pleasure in loaning people books that they enjoy.
