TechEd 2009 Day 2

Posted by Owen Evans on Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

Day 2 seems a bit thinner on the ground for dev talks.

Challenging the role of Software Architect by Kevin Fancis Not so much challenging as saying we need them more, which I disagree with, had personal disagreements with the content of the talk and for the first time at TechEd I felt compelled to leave the [...]

Wellington Geek Lunch

Posted by Owen Evans on Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

So today we managed to get the Wellington Geek Lunches off the ground. The enthusiasm was great, hopefully we can convert it into long term stickability*. We’re trying to decide on a decent wellington venue for the meetings but we’ve agreed to try a meeting room next week (if anyone has a suitable, easy access meeting room let me know). I have a worry that meeting rooms will make the group feel too formal but i’m willing to give it a go and see if my fears are founded on any kind of reality.

Once we finished talking about the future format of the Geek Lunches:

We moved onto a discussion about the relative merits of MVP [Model-View-Presenter http://martinfowler.com/eaaDev/ModelViewPresenter.html] and MVC [Model-View-Controller http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Model-view-controller] patterns, swaying through various terminology such as Passive View, Supervising View, data-binding and thin views.

Rather than me rehashing my interpretation of what was said I’m going to set up a wiki for the group so we can all contribute.

The Wiki is here:

Thanks to everyone who turned up.

Owen
