The Thin White Line

Well here i am in Val D’Isere (not sure on spelling there). I’m writing this one from an internet pub next to my hotel, so first off appologies for any spelling mistakes that may crop in but only have access to a french spell checker.
I feel i need to start by saying a huge thanks to my friends, as you may have gethered from the last entry i was more than a little morose before i went away, but my a number of freinds have sent me very supportive e-mails that made me feel much better so thanks to all of you.
Now back to the snowboarding, well the snow isn;t particularly fresh but it hasn’t melted so the boarding is good. Unfortunatly had the full intention of going to the snow park to get a few jumps in today but unfortunatly it was closed until lunch time, by which time i was INCREDIBLY tired so i just went to the bottom after lunch and tried to do some dissertation (not perticularly successfully).

My word count is up to 700 so still got a lot to do.

Anyway it’s pub crawl night tonight so i shal end this post now.

Thanks again to all of you!

Regrets

Think I’m sliding into another depression, and the day before I go snowboarding, honestly I don’t understand my brain sometimes.
On the bus home I had a major go at myself in my mind, it went something like this:

I am possibly the biggest arsehole in the world.
I am the biggest arsehole because I have too many regrets,
I regret letting life opportunities pass me by,
I regret that I have two months left in university and I still don’t have a job lined up, not because I’m unemployable, but because I haven’t applied for many, because I’m and arsehole!
I regret my first girlfriend; I regret what happened after I split up from my last girlfriend.
I regret that I can’t sing, dance, or act but still held onto the belief I could well into A-Level.
I regret that I’m such a compulsive liar that I have to make up story’s and pass them off as experiences I’ve had just to feel on the same level as the people I know in university!
I regret that bar the people I live with and a couple of exceptions I am unable to hold a plutonic relationship with people of the opposite sex.
I regret that I ruined certain friendships, just because of my selfish need to feel wanted.
That is why I’m the biggest arsehole in the world, (ever, parts one, two AND three)
I have lots of people I want to apologise to for everything I’ve ever done.

So many regrets, and I’m not even 21 yet.

Went to see Rules of attraction, but don’t know if I want to post a review while I’m in such a mood of self-loathing. I’ll post one while I’m snowboarding. Hopefully that will clear my head a bit.

Happy holidays all.

The Art Of Conversation

Found this and thought of my web page, found it quite funny and also quite true. Thanks to WWDN for the link. He may be a geek trek boy but hey he’s cool in my book!

OH and two days to snowboarding. WHOOOO

Dangers R Us

Went to see Confessions of a Dangerous Mind last night.
I really can’t say if I like it or not, it is a well crafted film and George Clooney seems to have proven that he can direct more than competently, there are some amazing use of single cut shots. Such as a sequence where Chuck Barris (Sam Rockwell) enters the scene three times, all at different time periods, to show his progression through jobs at the TV company. There are also some masterful scenes and the screenplay does scream of Kaufmans hand (Adaptation, Being John Malkovich). There is a very provocative scene with Chuck’s mother and in the subject matter is seriously interesting and amusing. But throughout the film I was never sure how to treat it, is it a thriller, comedy, drama… It contains so many elements of both and the subject would suggest a thriller, but then there are the interviews with the real people, and the really funny comedy moments that litter the film. I just don’t know how to treat this film it just didn’t quite sit right.

However that said I have to say that I can recommend the film.

24 News is pissing me off at the moment, it’s amazing how it can reduce the Iraq conflict into pure entertainment, and it’s sickening that they can actively show the bombing live, and have a happy voice over telling the viewer what they are viewing. Bring back the days when if something important happened there would be a newsflash on most channels. The most sickening thing I saw was an advert for sky news that actively used the war to sell their channel, it just smacked of insensitivity.
This is war, it is a crime, it should not be entertainment.

Get ya Skates On, cos we is going to war!

Whooo another post “Get Your Skates On” entry!

Plus this gets rid of last weeks GYSO entry about “THE MINGER!”

Pre warning, this post is going to be political so if you don’t care about the current state of the nation/international world you might not care to read on:

OK so we are at war, at least we will be by the time that most people read this, firstly I would like to point out that in my opinion this is a seriously sticky issue, I am defiantly not pro Sadam, he is an evil dictator who has brutally tortured his people. But on the other had what is this war about, the politicians have been making the case for war on Iraq based on a danger from weapons of mass destruction yet the UN weapons inspectors have failed to find any evidence that they exist, while I agree that they have not really exhausted the possibility that they do exist, surely you cannot claim to go ahead and attack without proof. Secondly why Iraq, why wasn’t North Korea or Syria a target for international pressure as these countries are suspected of having nuclear weapons programmes of their own. Why wasn’t a United States move to break the Treaty on Missile Proliferation, with their “Son of Star Wars” program blocked by the UN? I have to say that I have suspicions about USA motives, after all they took over Afghanistan and installed an interim leader that used to work for a US oil company.

Why has America only opened up contract bidding for Iraq rebuilding to American companies? Surely the best way to rebuild the country is to give the contracts to Iraqi companies and stimulate the economy, but oh no the USA economy is in recession it needs a war to stimulate it.

While I say all this I have to admit that action is needed, but I have doubts over whether military action will achieve any gains, after all even Winston Churchill has tried bombing Iraq:
On 19th February, 1920, before the start of the Arab uprising,
Churchill (then Secretary for War and Air) wrote to Sir Hugh Trenchard,
the pioneer of air warfare. Would it be possible for Trenchard to take
control of Iraq? This would entail “the provision of some kind of
asphyxiating bombs calculated to cause disablement of some kind but not
death…for use in preliminary operations against turbulent tribes.”

I don’t offer solutions and some may say that I wimp out by not offering them, but to me military action should be a LAST resort, not because of oil, (Bush has owned nearly 17 Oil companies in his time), not because of a conceived thread that has no proof, but because the WORLD says that it should be so!

In closing, how can the government blame France? Surly the role of a countries government is to represent it’s people?

Anyway enough of this non coherent rant!
Thought for the day:
If something’s worth doing just wait for someone else to come up with it first, it’ll save you half the bother! J

Insomnia

In the words of faithless:

I need to get some sleep….. I cant get no sleep.

Yet another night where I just can’t seem to get to sleep. I just lie in my bed looking at my ceiling counting the black marks from years of not being painted. Actually my ceiling is quite well painted, but I think I’m allowed to exaggerate to get my point over, which is I CAN’T BLOODY SLEEP!. God damn it.

But on the plus side I finished stupid white men by Michael Moore and here are a few interesting facts I thought I would share from the book:

1,275 American Companies with assets of $250m or more also paid no taxes and reported no income for 1995

only 11% of the American Public read a newspaper.

Only 9% of Americans have a degree.

And lots more shocking ones.

Michael Moore is very good at writing this stuff, occasionally I have to say I don’t side with his interpretation of the facts but mostly he seems spot on. And it really does paint a sorry picture of America and Britain as a smaller cousin (A position I REALLY wish we weren’t in).

But hey the bombs are about to start falling on Iraq and America are going to plunder their oil fields. Oh and incidentally the interim government of Afghanistan has allowed US plans for an oil pipeline to be built across their country so now we know the REAL reason for that war, especially as the bin Laden family were a big contributor to Bush senior and junior campaigns for presidential election!

Speaking of the Bin Ladens this this appeared on FARK. It appears we’ll all be listening to that new Bin Laden sound before long!

Well I really should complain so much. After all, all I have is insomnia.
